Dog of the Month

Meet "Kiara"

DOTM

MY BIO:

DOB: August 3, 2008

I'm an Australian Cattle Dog (aka Blue Heeler). My doggie mommy was killed when my siblings and I were only a couple of weeks old. The owners of the farm I was born on asked my human aunt to raise us since
she volunteers for a wildlife rehabilitation organization. One day my human mom came to visit and was playing with my siblings and I and I kept climbing into her lap to cuddle. After a few hours of climbing into her lap she took the hint and asked her mom and sister about me. I was the only one of the litter who didn't have a home yet. Mom took me home a few days later and we've been best friends ever since.

Owner: Heidi Genthner

Favorite Food: I really like pizza crusts. Mommy doesn't let me have them often, but I always try to sneak a bite. I also love all sorts of treats. Otherwise, I eat canned food. I refuse to eat the dry stuff unless the cat or another doggie is looking at my bowl and then I'll take a few bites.

Pet Peeve: I don't like strangers coming near my mommy. I'm super protective of her and always bark if strange people or dogs come near. I protect the car when we're driving around. And I have to let everyone at the pet stores know I'm there and I'm in charge, so I bark at them as soon as I walk in the door.

Favorite Toy: I love my hedgie (hedgehog). I always have at least 2 or 3 laying around the house. I use them as pillows, take them outside with me, and squeak them when I'm happy. I also like to throw
them around.

Best Trick: My best (and most impressive) tricks involve jumping. I can jump up and give my mom a kiss on the cheek without her bending over. We're also working on me being able to jump up and mom will catch me. We've been successful a couple of times.

Best Friends: I have a lot of friends. A lot of them are at Dawg Dayz - Spot, Muchka, Charlie, Mischka, and Diesel. But I also have friends on my grandparents' farm - Zach, Sue, Mimi, and Bart. I love to go visit and run on the farm with them.

THINGS ABOUT ME YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW

* I grew up in the city but love to go visit my grandparent's farm. I love to herd the llamas, ducks, chickens, and horses. And I get to run around all day with some of my doggie friends. I also ride the lawn mower tractor with my mom.

* I love to have my picture taken. I get jealous if my mom is taking pictures of other animals and will bark at her until she takes my picture.

* I love any toy that squeaks. Hedgehogs are my favorite, but I love the squeaky Kong tennis balls, fuzzy toys that squeak, and even the little squirrels that come in my Hide-A-Squirrel toy that squeak.

* I'm super smart and well trained. I've been all the way through Advanced training and have even taken an agility class. I learn super fast. In less than a week I learned not to take the wet and dirty tennis balls into the house and instead leave them in the garage. And mom wasn't even trying to teach me that.

* I'm always in charge, or at least like to think I am. I feel it's my duty to keep everyone else in line. At home I'm always keeping an eye on the cats or the other dog and making sure no one gets into trouble. I've been known to correct other dogs, cats, and humans if I think they are out of line.

* I love, love, LOVE my mommy. Every time she picks me up from Dawg Dayz or comes home, I jump up and give her kisses. It's our routine.

* I'm really small for an Australian Cattle Dog. ACD's are usually 35-50 pounds. I tip the scales at 27! All of my siblings (including the runt) are at least 10 pounds heavier than me. A few of them are 15-25 pounds heavier. But I'm as tough as they are.

I'm really honored to be Dawg Dayz's Dog of the Month. I love coming here and being with my friends and everyone who works here. I bark the entire way to day care (thank goodness we live close by) and I
always come running in wiggling my butt ready for kisses and play time.
